What is Atrial Fibrillation?
The heart normally beats rhythmically, like a precise clock. In Atrial Fibrillation (AF), the heart loses its rhythm and begins to beat chaotically.
This chaotic rhythm causes blood to pool in the heart chambers, potentially forming clots. If a clot breaks loose and travels to the brain, it blocks an artery, causing a stroke.
How does CHA₂DS₂-VASc work?
It is a risk stratification tool used by cardiologists worldwide. Each factor adds points; the higher the score, the higher the risk.
